Selma Üsük (* 1974 in Friedberg , Hessen ) is a German journalist and radio and television presenter of Turkish origin .

life and career

Selma Üsük grew up in Bad Vilbel . After graduating from high school, she studied German and sociology at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . She gained her first journalistic experience working for the cultural newspaper "Impuls" in Bad Vilbel, for which she interviewed Bono from U2 , among others . After several internships, among others at the Sender Freies Berlin and Antenne Bayern , she became editor and presenter in November 2002 in the radio and cultural program hr2 of the Hessischer Rundfunk (hr). After a journalistic traineeship at Radio NRW in Mülheim an der Ruhr , she returned to the hr in September 2004. Since then she has worked as a reporter and editor at hr3 and hr-iNFO . Since 2009 she has also regularly taken over the vacation replacement in the ARD radio studio in Los Angeles .

Üsük was a news presenter for hr-fernsehen in the hessenschau compact team from 2011 to 2017 . She presented the afternoon news program and the news block in the hessenschau at 7:30 p.m. Since April 2012, Üsük has also been moderating the afternoon service and entertainment program hallo hessen   on hr television. Since 2016 she has also been moderating the weekly culture magazine, mainly culture, alternating with Cécile Schortmann , also on hr television.

On 22 February 2016 she made as part of the program with a "cup action" in the US - late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a stir. During a private US vacation, she sat there in the audience, got into a conversation with presenter Jimmy Kimmel during a commercial break and asked him to use the red cup of her hr afternoon program. To the applause of the audience, he drank from the cup and spontaneously built it into his program. Thereupon she invited him to a return visit at hallo hessen .
