Selma Mahlknecht (born March 21, 1979 in Meran , South Tyrol ) is an Italian writer , screenwriter , director , dramaturge and songwriter . She lives in Zernez in Switzerland and works at the Academia Engiadina in Samedan as well as in adult education and theater .

Life

Mahlknecht grew up in Plaus in Vinschgau. She attended secondary school in Naturns and the humanistic grammar school in Meran . She then completed the "Dramaturgy and Screenplay" course at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

Mahlknecht is married to the Italian historian Kurt Gritsch . The couple also perform together as a cabaret and singing duo.

In 2003 Mahlknecht published her first volume of short stories , Ausgebbruch , followed by the world premiere of her first play Ex by the United Theaters of Bolzano in 2004 . From 2009 Mahlknecht was involved in various South Tyrolean folk theaters and wrote and staged numerous plays, some of them in the South Tyrolean dialect . In March 2009 Mahlknecht published her first novel with the title Nothing happened . In 2010 the historical novel Helena followed , which was awarded the Sir Walter Scott Prize for the best historical novel in German. The play XUNTHAIT was also produced and broadcast as a radio play by RAI Südtirol in 2011 .

Since 2012 she has been writing regularly for the print edition of the Südtiroler Wirtschaftszeitung , since 2014 for the online magazine Telepolis and since 2017 for the online portal barfuss.it .

At the beginning of 2020 it was announced that Mahlknecht would write her own play for the 800th anniversary of the Austrian municipality of Serfaus and also work as a town clerk. The play is to be performed by Serfaus citizens in September 2020.
