The Sengwa is a river in Zimbabwe .
course
The river has its source in the Midlands Province, 30 km southeast of Gokwe . After a short stretch it runs north, for about 80 km in a straight line to the west. Then he describes a wide arc to the north and then flows through the Chizarira National Park . It flows further north and finally flows into the Kariba reservoir between the places Siabuwa and Siyakobvu on the border between the province of Mashonaland West and the province of Matabeleland North .
ecology
The upper course of the river fell completely dry after construction work in 2012 and its aquatic flora and fauna died. Only after heavy rain between December 2016 and February 2017 did it become a wadi again .
Economy
Around the middle course of the river lies the Chirisa safari area with an area of 1200 km². As with all rivers that have no water in the dry season, agriculture is difficult. Thus, apart from wildlife management, there is hardly any economic basis. However, the shooting of game has always been a master's right, so that there is neither tradition nor experience in this branch of industry for locals. The entire reserve concept also excludes them. The people in the places mentioned would be essentially dependent on it. Poaching is the only source of income, especially on the slopes of the Zambezi Valley .
