Serge-Thomas Bonino OP (born November 3, 1961 in L'Estaque , Marseille ) is a French religious and theologian . Since 2014 he has been President of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas .

Life

Serge-Thomas Bonino joined in 1982 the Congregation of the Dominicans in Toulouse in. He graduated in philosophy from the Sorbonne in 1984 . After completing his military service at the military school of Aix-en-Provence as a philosophy teacher, he studied Catholic theology at the Dominican School in Toulouse and graduated in canonical theology. He was ordained a priest in June 1988 and has been a member of the Dominican Province of Toulouse ever since. In 1988/90 he studied at the University of Freiburg im Üechtland and graduated with a degree in theology.

Act

Since 1990 he has taught medieval philosophy at the Catholic Institute in Toulouse and since 1991 dogmatics at the Dominican Studies in Toulouse. In 1992 he was with a thesis on Thomas Aquinas at the University of Freiburg Dr. theol. PhD . In 1993 he became director of Dominican Studies. Since 1999 he has been dean of the Philosophy Faculty at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse.

On December 17, 2011 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed General Secretary of the International Theological Commission in succession to Charles Morerod OP . On January 7, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI called him. as consultor to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith .

From 1991 to 2010 he headed the magazine Revue thomiste, which has been published since 1893 . In 1995 he was co-founder of the "Institut Saint-Thomas d'Aquin (ISTA)" in Toulouse. Since 1995 he has belonged to the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. In November 2014 he was appointed president.

Bonino's main teaching and research areas are medieval theology from Augustine to Nikolaus von Kues and, in particular, the theology of Thomas Aquinas.
