Sergio Brio (born August 19, 1956 in Lecce ) is a former Italian football player and coach .

Brio spent most of his career as a defender at Juventus Turin .

Career

As a player

Sergio Brio began his career with his hometown club, US Lecce , in the 1973/74 season in Serie C1 . At the age of 18, in October 1974, he was signed by Juventus Turin, who then loaned him to AC Pistoiese for three seasons . There he played a total of 96 games and gained valuable experience.

In the summer of 1978 he finally went to Juve and celebrated his Serie A debut on March 18, 1979 in a 1-0 win against SSC Napoli . Sergio Brio stayed in Turin until 1990 and was able to celebrate great successes under coaches such as Giovanni Trapattoni and Dino Zoff . He was an important player in the first team throughout this time and is one of the few players who has won all national and international competitions at club level in their career.

Sergio Brio played a total of 243 Serie A games for Juventus and scored 16 times, in total he played for Juve 378 times and scored 24 goals.

As a trainer

After the end of his active career, Brio worked as assistant coach to Giovanni Trapattoni at Juventus and later at Cagliari Calcio . In the 2003/04 season he coached the Belgian club RAEC Mons in the first division .
