Serhiy Fedorowytsch Schyschko ( Ukrainian Сергій Федорович Шишко ; born June 12 . Jul / 25. June 1911 greg. In Nosivka , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 26. April 1997 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Ukrainian painter .

Life
Serhiy Shyshko was born in Nossivka in what is now the Chernihiv Oblast in Ukraine, the son of a veterinarian. In 1919 the family moved to Nischyn , where he received his first drawing lessons in elementary school. Between 1929 and 1933 he studied with Fedir Krytschewskyj at the Kiev Art Institute . From 1936 to 1943 he graduated from the Russian Art Academy in Leningrad with Borys Wladymyrowytsch Yohanson , which was evacuated to Samarkand in Uzbekistan due to the German-Soviet War from 1942 onwards . In 1944 he returned to Ukraine and has lived in Kiev ever since.
Schyschko painted portraits, still lifes and landscapes, including the “Kiev Suite” begun in 1944, a series of landscapes from Samarkand (1942), the Carpathians (1947), the Crimea (1956) and pictures of places associated with Taras Shevchenko's life. His works have been shown in many national and international exhibitions and published in three albums (1971, 1977, 1987). They are now in the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kiev, in museums in Simferopol, Sumy, Odessa and Chernihiv, as well as in other art museums and private collections.
In 1982 he was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine with the Taras Shevchenko Prize . He died in Kiev at the age of 85 and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .
