Serik Bürkitbajew

Serik Minawaruly Bürkitbajew ( Kazakh Серік Минаварұлы Бүркітбаев , Russian Серик Минаварович Буркитбаев Serik Minawarowitsch Burkitbajew * 7. September 1957 in Merke , Kazakh SSR ) is a former Kazakh politicians and managers.

Life

Serik Bürkitbajew was born in Merke in today's Shambyl region in 1957 . He earned a degree in 1980 Physics Engineering at the Moscow Institute of Technical Physics.

After completing postgraduate studies in Moscow, he worked at the Kazakh Academy of Sciences from 1984 . He then worked in the private sector after Kazakhstan's independence. Among other things, he was President of Kazinformtelecom and managed the companies Kazakhstani Telecommunications and KazakhTelecom . In 1998 Bürkitbayev became a member of the Kazakh government under Prime Minister Nurlan Balghymbayev . There he belonged to the cabinet as Minister for Transport and Communication. Between 2000 and 2003 he worked as assistant to the president before becoming president of the Kazakh Institute for Oil and Gas. He then returned on February 10, 2007 as assistant to the President in his administration. Between February and May 2008 he was Chairman of the Board of the National Society for Science and Technology Samgau.

On May 29, 2008, he was appointed chairman of the board of the Kazakh national oil and gas company, KazMunayGas . He was released from this post on August 20, 2008. He was arrested in September on charges of corruption . On March 20, 2009, he was by a military court in Astana sentenced to six years in prison. There was speculation about a politically motivated criminal prosecution, since Bürkitbayev is said to have been a close confidante of Rachat Aliyev , the former son-in-law of the Kazakh president. He was paroled in November 2012.
