Sevenich is a district of the local community Beltheim in the low mountain range of the Hunsrück in the Rhine-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

Sevenich is a bit out of the way on the edge of the forest, north of the Frankweiler district and above the Baybach . The Buchenhof residential area also belongs to Sevenich . It is situated in the conservation area "Moselle area of Schweich to Koblenz".

history

The place originally belonged to the county of Sponheim . The Sponheimers issued it as a special fiefdom to the Knights of Waldeck at Waldeck Castle . The fiefdom was apparently given to the native marshal . In 1521 Sevenich came to the Waldbott von Bassenheim , which in the following time achieved a large degree of independence. Around 1600 the Waldbott von Bassenheim built a castle in Sevenich. It was completely demolished in the 19th century. Today nothing can be seen of the castle apart from a few bumps in the ground.

On March 17, 1974 Sevenich was incorporated into the municipality of Beltheim.

politics

Parish Church of St. Nicholas

The Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus was built in 1723-25 ​​as a baroque rubble stone hall by the Waldbott von Bassenheim. Instead of a rooster, a swan decorates the church tower, which was completed on August 18, 2007, as a symbol of the forest bot. In addition to several items of equipment from the construction period, there is a Romanesque baptismal font from the 12th century and a Pietà from the early 15th century.
