Adeseye "Seye" Akinola Ogunlewe (born August 30, 1991 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian sprinter .

Athletic career

Seye Ogunlewe gained his first experience in international championships at the Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow , Scotland , where he was eliminated in the first round over 200 meters with 21.11 seconds. Shortly thereafter, he was eliminated from the African Championships in Marrakech, also over 200 meters in the first round, but won the gold medal as the forerunner of the Nigerian 4 x 100 meter relay. In 2015 Ogunlewe took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville and finished there in fifth place with 10.45 s. In 2016 he qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated over 100 meters with 10.26 seconds in the lead . Two years later he finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in the 100-meter run in 10.19 s and was disqualified in the final with the Nigerian 4-by-100-meter relay. In August he won the silver medal with the relay behind South Africa in 38.74 seconds at the African Championships in Asaba . He also finished fifth over 100 meters in 10.45 s. In 2019 he again took part in the African Games in Rabat and reached the semi-finals over 100 meters, in which he was eliminated with 10.45 seconds. In addition, he was used in the relay in the run-up and thus contributed to winning the silver medal. This also gave him a starting place in the relay for the World Championships in Doha in October, but was disqualified there in the preliminary round.

Between 2015 and 2017, Ogunlewe became the Nigerian champion in the 100-meter run. He is the son of the Nigerian politician Adeseye Ogunlewe and lived in Ireland from 2008 and then studied at the University of Essex , where he graduated in Law and Politics.
