The St. George's Arm ( Romanian Brațul Sfântu Gheorghe , until 1993 Brațul Sfîntu Gheorghe ) is the southernmost arm of the Danube estuary into the Black Sea . Together with the Chilia arm and the Sulina arm , they form the Danube Delta .
description
It is heavily meandered and not suitable for large shipping .
The St. George Arm accounts for 21.2% of the Danube's water flow in the delta .
Five communities are located on the St. George's arm: Nufăru , Beştepe , Mahmudia , Murighiol and, at the mouth of the Black Sea, Sfântu Gheorghe .
Four strictly protected nature reserves lie in the area of these municipalities: the brackish lake Murighiol in the area of Murighiol and the Erenciuc alder forest , the Belciug lake and the Sacalin-Zătoane bird reserve in the area of Sfântu Gheorghe (see Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, core zone ).
