Shannon Tavarez

Shannon Skye Tavárez (born January 20, 1999 in Bellerose , Queens , New York City , † November 1, 2010 in New Hyde Park , New York ) was an American musical actress .

Life

Tavarez attended Public School 176 in Queens. With an open audition, she was in 2008 for the role of Nala in the Broadway production of Disney - musicals The Lion King selected. From September 2009 she performed for seven months at the Minskoff Theater in New York.

In April 2010 she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia . After no bone marrow donors could be found, the DKMS Americas (the American branch of the German bone marrow donor database ) posted a video on the Internet in which Tavarez asked for help. Various well-known artists, including Alicia Keys , Rihanna and 50 Cent , then asked their fans to register as potential donors.

Shannon Tavarez died at the age of eleven at the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center (part of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center) in New York City.
