Shayan Fathi (* 1985 in Tehran ) is an Austrian percussionist of Iranian origin who works in both world music and jazz .

Live and act

Fathi began playing the piano at the age of eight ; when he was ten years old, drums and percussion instruments were added. As a teenager in Austria he played in various groups, mainly influenced by Latin American music. At the age of 16 he began studying jazz drums at the Vienna Conservatory. Between 2001 and 2003 he won several prizes such as B. a scholarship for the Drummer's Collective New York .

After his studies he worked with Harry Sokal , Alegre Corrêa and Count Basic , but also with Dana Gillespie , Mono & Nikitaman , the Fagner Wesley Quartet ( Meu Toque 2015), the Superfly Radio Orchestra , Rodney Hunter , Vera Böhnisch , the Rounder Girls , Mamadou Diabate and Antonio Lizana . In 2012 he presented the album Edition Leopold with the quartet ShadooMusic . With the singer Golnar Shahyar and the guitarist Mahan Mirarab he founded the world music trio Sehrang , which based on Iranian music released the album Dar Lahze in 2014 . He can also be heard on albums by Klaus Waldeck , Iris Camaa, Dzihan & Kamien , Anna László, Martin Reiter and Zeebee .

Fathi is a member of the Iranian band Damahi, founded by Dara Daraee in 2014.
