Shelvis (* 1975 in Hamburg as Shezad Eikmeier ) is a German impersonator, musician and radio host. He achieved national fame in particular in his role as Elvis Presley's double as well as through his successful world record attempt in continuous singing of Elvis Presley songs as part of an action for the Hamburg radio station Oldie95 . The NDR described Shelvis as "the best Elvis impersonator in Northern Germany".

On the 40th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death, the Hamburger Abendblatt described Shelvis in August 2017 as "the undoubtedly best known and best (Elvis impersonator) in Northern Germany".

Career and understanding of roles

Born of half-Pakistani origin, father German, mother from Pakistan, Eikmeier first came into contact with songs by Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock 'n' Roll, at the age of eight. When his cousin played the music for him at that time, he began to sing and imitate his role model. According to his own statement, he made his first appearance as an Elvis double at his high school graduation ceremony in 1994. Shelvis himself describes the positive response as an "initial spark". At this early stage in his career, Shelvis was accompanied by a band. In the following years Shelvis increasingly took on the appearance of the King of Rock 'n' Roll and appeared mostly as a solo artist. Shelvis repeatedly commented on his role as an impersonator. Every impersonator should therefore be aware that he will never be taken 100% seriously. Shelvis describes imitating a well-known personality as a kind of drama.

public perception

Shelvis appears in the media mainly in northern Germany, but also nationwide as an impersonator of Elvis Presley. As part of the Hamburg cultural scene, Shelvis was interviewed by the Hamburger Abendblatt in April 2004. In addition to a variety of events such as public birthday parties in honor of Elvis Presley, for example in the Hardrock Café , for Karstadt or for Eimsbüttel TV , Shelvis is also regularly booked for private events. On May 31st, 2008 Shelvis performed in Hamburg St. Georg, accompanied by the Junge Symphoniker Hamburg, as part of a live concert.

Shelvis appears regularly on the nationally relevant Hamburg port birthday , for example in 2011 and 2014. Shelvis also appears regularly on the nationally important Schlagermove with several hundred thousand visitors . Shelvis repeatedly played on Spielbudenplatz in Hamburg St. Pauli . Shelvis has also been a show act for many years at the Santa Pauli Christmas market, for example in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has been featured in radio and TV programs for many years and repeatedly. For example, on Elvis Presley's 75th birthday on January 8, 2010 on NDR 90.3 . The NDR television magazine DAS! reported extensively on Shelvis' career in an article. In it, Shezad Eikmeier described himself as the "Roberto Blanko among the Elvis impersonators", which apparently took place with reference to his mother's origin and the resulting dark skin color.

For the radio station NDR 90.3, Shelvis undertook a Cadillac tour through many Hamburg districts on August 15, 2012. When NDR television reported on a European tour of the Elvis Museum Memphis, Shelvis guided through the report and appeared as an expert on the life story of Elvis Presley. As part of Vox telecast Tastes not there's not joined Shelvis alongside Tim maltsters in appearance. On October 12, 2008, Shelvis performed on the big stage at the CCH . In 2009, as part Shelvis was RTL - talent show Super Talent to see nationwide. Also in 2009, Shelvis took part in the talent show Multitalent from Radio Hamburg . BalconyTV reported on Shelvis in a post on August 29, 2009.

In 2008 and 2010 Shelvis played in the famous Hamburg Angie's Nightclub as part of the Schmidt Theater . On August 23, 2008, Shelvis appeared as part of the Schmidt Midnight Show in the Schmidt Theater. On June 18, 2010, Shelvis performed in the Stage Club within Neue Flora Hamburg. Shelvis performs regularly at Hamburg Cathedral , for example on August 20, 2016. As part of the opening of the Elbphilharmonie in January 2017, BILD reported on a Shelvis selfi in front of the concert hall.

World record

In January 2004, Shelvis set the world record for singing Elvis songs continuously with 40 hours, eight minutes and two seconds. He sang a total of 800 songs in the shop window of the radio station Oldie95. The successful world record was reported nationwide, for example in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , but also in the regional television station Hamburg 1 and in the Hamburger Abendblatt . According to information from the Guinness Book Publishing House, Shelvis only beat the previous record by a second.

Radio show "It's Elvis Time"

Since 1991 Shelvis can be heard as the presenter of his own radio show "It's Elvis Time". The program was initially on the Hamburg Open Channel until 2003 , and has been on tide 96.0 since 2004 . The one-hour radio broadcast takes place regularly on the second Monday of each month from 9:00 p.m. With more than 25 years of radio presence it would be one of the longest existing radio shows of the civil radio act.
