action

Sherlock Holmes realizes that Professor Moriarty is up to something, but he can't find out. He also does not take the opportunity to eliminate his archenemy once and for all, as he fears the revenge of the professor's organization. But Holmes does not give up and tries with his faithful assistant Watson to uncover the planned crime. The trail leads to New York, where Holmes and Watson discover that the son of Irene Adler, a well-known actress, was probably kidnapped by Moriarty. Shortly thereafter, Moriarty used the boy as leverage to end Holmes' investigation. Holmes is contacted by the NYPD regarding the recent theft at the New York Bank, in which the entire contents of the vault in the form of gold bars weighing several tons disappeared overnight. To protect the child, Holmes turns the case down, but he and Dr. Watson later succeeds in tracking down and rescuing the boy, which allows them to end Moriarty's blackmail.

Using the elevator to the vault, Holmes finds out how Moriarty stole the gold bars because they couldn't be removed so quickly through the narrow passage. The lift stops after 42 seconds instead of the 45 seconds that Holmes calculated for the distance to be covered. Moriarty had set up an identical, empty duplicate above the correct vault and had the elevator stopped there by blocking the elevator shaft with wooden planks. While everyone was amazed at how Moriarty had apparently been able to steal the gold bars, he stole the gold bars from the correct vault underneath.

That solved the case. When Holmes and Adler say goodbye to each other, Adler says that their son has a good mind and a puzzler-solving tendency, implying that Holmes could be his father. Nevertheless, their ways separate.

Reviews

Roger Moore is regarded by Shadowlocked as one of the ten worst Sherlock Holmes actors for his role in this film (also in the criticism: Charlton Heston , Stewart Granger , Christopher Lee , Michael Caine ) and criticized as follows: “Both his irrelevant personality as well as his eyebrows seem out of place in the role of Holmes. He should master his third facial expression before he puts on the famous Sherlock Holmes hat. ”(“ Both his tongue-in-cheek persona and eyebrows look out of place as Holmes! He needed to have fully mastered his third facial expression before donning the famous deerstalker. ")

"Prominent but unfortunate cast, mostly boringly implemented detective story, which at best offers undemanding entertainment."
