David Huddleston (born September 17, 1930 in Vinton , Roanoke County , Virginia - † August 2, 2016 in Santa Fe , New Mexico ) was an American actor .

life and career

David Huddleston attended the Fork Union Military Academy before studying acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts . As early as the 1960s and 1970s, he was seen as a guest star in numerous television series. In nine episodes of the Petrocelli lawyer series , he played the role of police investigator John Ponce. In 1970, he embodied a comedic role as a dentist in Howard Hawks ' Western Rio Lobo at the side of John Wayne . Increased involvement in the cinema in the 1980s was followed by a focus on television roles in the decades that followed. Huddleston played twice with Bud Spencer and three times with Terence Hill : After appearing with the same team in Two Out of Control in 1976 , he directed Two Strong Guys in 1983 under the direction of EB Clucher . He played with Terence Hill again in 1992 in the episode A Beautiful Magic Train of the television series Lucky Luke .

Huddleston was known for his impersonation of both comical and sinister characters. His most famous film appearance was in the title role of millionaire Lebowski in the Coen brothers' comedy The Big Lebowski . Usually subscribed to supporting roles, he played one of his few main roles in the film in the 1985 Christmas comedy Santa Claus . He also took on another leading role as mayor of a small town in the short-lived television series Hizzoner , which was produced in the late 1970s. He made his last of over 60 films in 2014, after which he retired into private life.
