McQ Strikes (OT: McQ ) is an American thriller that premiered in the United States on January 4, 1974. It was shown in German cinemas on August 22, 1974.
action
Shortly before sunset, Detective Sergeant Stan Boyle murders two other police officers in Seattle . Shortly afterwards he himself is murdered by strangers on whose behalf he apparently acted. Captain Ed Kosterman believes the murder was carried out by terrorists. So he sets up an appropriate force to take action against them. However, Lon McQ believes the drug dealer Manny Santiago is the culprit. He's torn because Boyle was a close friend to him. Santiago, however, is planning an elaborate coup and has hired several killers for it. McQ goes unlawfully against the instructions of his department. He resigns from the police force, angry and frustrated. In the course of the plot, McQ recognizes more and more corruption in its own ranks. The angry Kosterman wants to force McQ to finally leave a private investigation. However, he continues his investigation and learns that Santiago was not responsible for Boyle's death. After the murder of an informant and an attack on his life, he discovers who was really behind Boyle's murder, and a showdown takes place on Seattle Beach.
criticism
"Perfectly staged action film that depicts vigilante justice as the necessary correction of a corrupt and powerless police apparatus."
“John Wayne played the detective (a classic American hero role) for the first time when he was almost 70. But he wasn't as successful as Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson . The role of McQ is rather cumbersome and one wonders how this man, who would actually have long since retired, can get into so many exciting scenes. "
