Shigenobu Murofushi ( Japanese 室 伏 重 信 , Murofushi Shigenobu; born October 2, 1945 in Hebei , China ) is a former Japanese hammer thrower .

In 1966 he won silver at the Asian Games in Bangkok , 1967 bronze at the Universiade and 1969 bronze at the Pacific Conference Games .

A victory at the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1970 was followed by eighth place at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 1974 he defended his title at the Asian Games in Tehran , and in 1976 he finished eleventh at the Olympic Games in Montreal .

At the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1978 , he won for the third time in a row. 1979 followed a victory at the Asian Athletics Championships , sixth place at the World Athletics Cup in Montreal . In 1981 he won the Pacific Conference Games, defended his title at the Asian Championships and was again sixth at the World Cup in Athletics in Rome .

The following year he won again at the Asian Games in New Delhi in 1982 . At the World Athletics Championships in 1983 and the Olympic Games in 1984 , he was eliminated in qualification.

In 1986 he won the Asian Games in Seoul for the fifth time in a row.

He was Japanese champion twelve times (1970, 1974-1983, 1986). On July 15, 1984, he set a Japanese record in Walnut with 75.96 m, which was broken in 1998 by his son Kōji Murofushi . His daughter Yuka Murofushi was also successful as a hammer thrower.
