Sibin

Sibin ( German  Zebbin ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . It belongs to Gmina Kamień Pomorski (Cammin Municipality) in the Kamieński Powiat (Cammin District) .

Geographical location

Sibin is located in Western Pomerania , on a hill about 9.5 kilometers southwest of the city of Kamień Pomorski (Cammin in Pomerania) and 54 kilometers north of Szczecin.

The village used to belong to a manor. The village church of Zebbin is first mentioned in 1288. In 1404 the von Steinwehr family sold a quarter of the village to the city of Wollin and the local Cistercian monastery . In 1419 Kurt Muckerwitz owed the Camminer Bishop Magnus von Sachsen-Lauenburg a pension; in 1491 the Flemmings are mentioned as patrons of the church. Since around 1500 the village has belonged to the Flemmings, who in 1628 tax three shares at 13.5 Hh, two kossaten , two shepherds and a mill.

Around 1780 Zebbin had two farms, nine farmers, three of whom had previously belonged to Ribbertow, two kossas, a preacher, a sexton, a windmill and a total of 16 households. At this time the village was a Flemming fief. Until 1835, the manor was owned by District Administrator Carl Berend Sigismund von Flemming (1779-1835), who was the heir to Basenthin, Harmsdorf, Zebbin and Ribbertow. In 1866 the manor and the parish had a total of 314 inhabitants. In 1870 the Flemmingsche Gut had a size of 531.1 hectares and 141 inhabitants, and the village with 20 landowners had 201.5 hectares and 198 inhabitants.

Around 1930 the district of Zebbin had an area of ​​748.7 hectares, of which 8.5 hectares were forest, it housed 39 houses, and Zebbin was the only place of residence in the municipality. In 1925 Zebbin counted 307 inhabitants, who were spread over 58 households. In 1939 the manor had a size of 539 hectares; its owner was R. von Flemming.

Until 1945 Zebbin belonged to the district of Cammin i. Pom. the province of Pomerania . Zebbin was the seat of the Zebbin District.

Towards the end of the Second World War there was bitter fighting in Lebbin for four days at the beginning of March 1945; Some of the residents fled aimlessly and without official instructions, about 12 to 15 people stayed. Over 60 soldiers were killed in the fighting; during the occupation by the Soviet Army three residents were shot. After the end of the war, Zebbin was placed under Polish administration. Zebbin was renamed Sibin .

A large majority of the village population present in Zebbin until 1945 belonged to the Protestant creed. In 1925 there were 286 Protestants and 21 Catholics in Zebbin. The Protestant inhabitants of Drammin, Ribbertow , Paatzig and Kucklow were parish in the parish of Zebbin . The patronage of the church was in the hands of the von Flemming-Paatzig family, who were mentioned as early as 1491.

Zebbin Church was first mentioned in 1288. The nave, a boulder and brick masonry, was built around 1500. In 1594 and 1749 the church tower was renewed; its superstructure consisted of boarded oak and pine framework and had an octagonal helmet. The church bell was cast in 1523. In 1945 the church was badly damaged by artillery shelling. Only the substructure made of boulders and bricks remains of the church tower.

Citizens of Zebbin are said to have once mistaken a black horse that had run to a farmer and that allegedly had red eyes for the devil in the form of a horse.
