Siegfried Schneider (born November 12, 1939 in Forst (Lausitz) ) is a former German volleyball player and trainer.
Siegfried Schneider began playing volleyball at the age of thirteen in his home town of Forst in Niederlausitz. At the age of 17 he moved to the then GDR top club SC Leipzig , with which he was GDR champion ten times and FDGB cup winner twice , and in 1964 he won the European championship cup . At the same time, he trained as a sports teacher and volleyball coach at the Leipzig Sports University. In the 1960s Schneider had his first assignments for the GDR national team . Since 1967, as a team captain, he was decisively involved in leading the GDR team to the top of the world. In addition to several fourth places in 1966 at the World Cup in Czechoslovakia , in 1967 at the European Championship in Turkey , in 1968 at the Olympic Games in Mexico and in 1971 at the European Championship in Italy , Schneider won the World Cup at home in the GDR with the GDR selection in 1969 1970 World Champion in Bulgaria and in 1972 won the Olympic silver medal in Munich . Then he ended his active volleyball career. From 1973 to 1982 he was a trainer, from 1983 to 1990 manager at SC Leipzig.
In 2009 Siegfried Schneider was the first German to be inducted into the "Volleyball Hall of Fame". In 1972 he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
