Sighard Kleiner OCist (born October 7, 1904 in Bregenz as Karl Kleiner ; † December 5, 1995 there ) was the 79th Abbot General of the Cistercian Order .

As a student, Karl Kleiner attended the Collegium Bernardi in Mehrerau Abbey . He received his Matura with distinction in 1923 , studied theology and was ordained a priest on September 16, 1928 in the Bregenz Gallus monastery and gave his first degree on September 30 . On November 13, 1928, he entered the Cistercian Abbey of Mehrerau as a novice , where he took the religious name Sighard. In 1931 he was awarded a doctorate with summa cum laude. theol. doctorate and initially employed as a religion teacher (Austrian: religion professor) at the grammar school in Mehrerau. He was also a lecturer in dogmatics at the Hauslehranstalt Mehrerau. 1939–1950 he was the prior of the Hauterive re-establishment . On November 5, 1950 he became General of the Cistercian Order and Titularabt of Morimond benediziert . From May 8, 1953 to August 1985, he was Abbot General of the Order. As a council father he took part in the Second Vatican Council.
