Sigrun Löwisch born Majer (born November 8, 1942 in Swinemünde ) is a German CDU politician . She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1991 to 1998 .

Löwisch grew up in Ruchsen (Baden), Heidelberg, Wernfeld (Lower Franconia) and Esslingen. After completing secondary school and training as a doctor's assistant , she worked in the profession she had learned until the birth of her first child. Löwisch has lived in fiefdom since 1969 . She is married to the former rector of the University of Freiburg Manfred Löwisch and has four children. Daughter Henriette Löwisch is a journalist and has headed the German School of Journalism from 2017 , son Georg Löwisch is also a journalist and has been editor-in-chief of taz since September 2015 . She is evangelical.

Löwisch has been a member of the CDU since 1968 and was local chairwoman and deputy district chairwoman. In addition, she worked as a local councilor (since 1971) and mayor (1988 to 2008) in Lehen, a district of Freiburg , and as a councilor in Freiburg from 1975 to 1991. She was the first woman to be elected mayor in the incorporated districts. In addition, she was a board member of the German Family Association in Freiburg and a member of the State Court of Baden-Württemberg from 1984 to 1991.

Löwisch became a member of the 12th German Bundestag on October 21, 1991, replacing the departed Freiburg MP Conrad Schroeder, and in 1994 won the direct mandate in the Freiburg constituency . As a member of the 13th electoral term , she was a full member of the Committee on Health and group spokesperson for bioethical issues. In the 1998 Bundestag election , she lost as another direct candidate in Freiburg with 37.7 percent of the vote against the SPD candidate , Gernot Erler , who won the constituency for his party for the first time with 41.5 percent of the votes. Löwisch left parliament when the 14th Bundestag met in 1998.
