Thomas Cook Airlines (formerly JMC Airlines ) was a British charter airline based in Manchester and based at Manchester Airport .

history

A JMC Airlines Boeing 757-200

On February 5, 1999, the two British tourism groups Carlson Leisure Group and Thomas Cook Group merged to form Thomas Cook Holdings . In the course of the merger, its subsidiaries Flying Colors Airlines and Caledonian Airways were merged on September 1, 1999 to form JMC Airlines , which began operations on March 27, 2000. The abbreviation JMC stood for John Mason Cook , the son of Thomas Cook .

In 2001, the German C&N Touristic took over the British travel company Thomas Cook Holdings , creating Thomas Cook AG . The JMC Airlines was later set in on 31 March 2003 Thomas Cook Airlines renamed.

In June 2007 Thomas Cook AG and the British MyTravel Group merged to form the Thomas Cook Group . As a result, the airline MyTravel Airways was fully integrated into Thomas Cook Airlines on March 30, 2008 .

In September 2011 it was announced that Thomas Cook Airlines would lay off 250 employees and flee six aircraft as part of restructuring measures.

In August 2013 it was announced that the base in Manchester would be expanded into a hub for long-haul flights and that the route network would be restructured accordingly. The model for this is the long-haul base of the sister company Condor in Frankfurt am Main. In September 2013, the Thomas Cook Group Airline, consisting of Condor and the British, Belgian and Danish Thomas Cook Airlines, presented their new joint brand identity, which included a completely new corporate design and a new livery of the fleet in gray / white / yellow. The first machine in this livery was an Airbus A321-200.

At the beginning of February 2019, the holding company announced that it wanted to divest its flight division. A sale should be made as a strategic decision due to increased last-minute bookings, the airline continues to generate profits.

On September 23, 2019, the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that Thomas Cook Airlines had filed for bankruptcy.
