Manfred Löwisch

Manfred Löwisch (born March 8, 1937 in Jena ) is a German legal scholar . From 1991 to 1995 he was rector of the University of Freiburg.

biography

Löwisch studied law in Tübingen , Würzburg and Munich from 1955 to 1959 and received his doctorate in Tübingen in 1961. In 1963 and 1964 he worked as a judge in Stuttgart and then as a research assistant at the University of Hamburg , where he also completed his habilitation . Since 1969 he has been a full professor of civil law , business law , labor law and social security law at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . At the same time, he was a judge at the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court from 1980 to 1989 . From 1991 to 1995 he was rector of the University of Freiburg. In 1991 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto . From 2000–2006 he was deputy chairman of the university council . Since his retirement in 2005 he has worked as a lawyer and head of the research center for university labor law at the University of Freiburg. His focus is on labor law, social security law and civil law. As a legal interpreter and lawyer, Löwisch also represents the employers' side in labor law and collective bargaining issues. Until October 2011 he worked for the Stuttgart law firm Gleiss Lutz .

Löwisch is a member of the CDU and the German University Association . He is married to the former CDU member of the Bundestag Sigrun Löwisch . Both daughter Henriette Löwisch is a journalist and has been heading the German School of Journalism since 2017 , son Georg Löwisch is also a journalist and has been the sole editor-in-chief of taz since September 2015 .
