Sikandar ( Urdu : سِکندر; Hindi : सिकन्दर) is an Indian historical film by Sohrab Modi from 1941. The focus of the film is the battle of the Hydaspes between the armies of Alexander the Great and King Porus .

action

The year 326 BC BC : Sikandar ( Alexander the Great ) has conquered Persia and the Kabul Valley and stands before India. At the river Jehlam (Hydaspes) the king Porus from the Panjab and his troops stop the advance of the Macedonian army.

Sikandar ignores the advice of his teacher Aristotle and falls in love with the Persian Rukhsana . Worried about Sikander's life, she lets Porus promise that this Sikander will not cause any harm.

In the battle against the Macedonian army, Porus loses his son Amar and is himself captured. A well-thought-out court hearing ensues when Porus enters the trial in front of Sikandar. Impressed by Poru's bravery, the two kings become friends. Sikandar releases Porus and withdraws from the Jehlam.

background

"Sikandar" is the Indian form of the name of "Alexander".

The film was produced by Modi's film company Minerva Movietone .

criticism

The declamatory style of the dialogues is in the tradition of the Parish theater. Modi and Kapoor give in to their theatrical inclination here. The highlights of the film include the battle scenes with horses and elephants.
