Silviahemmet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silviahemmet (translated as Silvias Heim ) is a Swedish foundation that was set up in 1996 by the Queen of Sweden, Silvia of Sweden . Alice Sommerlath, her mother, had dementia herself. On the basis of palliative care, the Silviahemmet Foundation has developed a philosophy with Silviahemmet that serves as a guide for creating a concept tailored to the respective facility.

Foundation, endowment

The primary purpose of the Silviahemmet foundation is to promote caring, dignified care for people with dementia . People with dementia should be able to be cared for at home as long as possible. The philosophy is based on the pillars of teamwork , family work , communication and encounters as well as symptom control . The foundation has set itself research and teaching as its goal.

job

Silviahemmet's work includes supporting families, training nursing staff and raising public awareness of the issue of dementia and care. Silviahemmet is about care that is based on the symptoms of the individual.

The basic philosophy is based on palliative care and support for people with dementia. The focus is on the dignity of the sick person. In contrast to traditional nursing and care concepts, at Silviahemmet the dementia patient teaches the non-sick to understand the clinical picture. The pension is based on the needs of the individual, not to the general ideas of the clinical picture of dementia. The aim is that the entire environment of people with dementia must be trained. In addition to the well-known medical professions , this includes family members, friends and neighbors, but also outsiders such as taxi drivers or saleswomen . The aim is to reduce uncertainties and fears in dealing with people with dementia and to remove the taboo from society on the subject of dementia.

The care concept according to Silviahemmet can be applied as a model for the care of people with dementia to German semi-inpatient and inpatient facilities. For this purpose, the guidelines of the philosophy are coordinated with the applicable guidelines and framework agreements of statutory nursing care. Silviahemmet is about nursing and medical treatment strategies . A non-drug strategy is in the foreground, for example activities, milieu therapy or music therapy . One focus is the inclusive work with relatives, which goes beyond the biography work in team work and pursues the holistic approach. Regular training courses and workshops for relatives are intended to encourage their involvement in day-to-day care in order to delay the progression of symptoms.

Silviahemmet has been cooperating with the Maltese in Germany since 2009. Several facilities such as B. the day meeting for people with beginning dementia in Bottrop or the stations Silvia in the Malteser Krankenhaus St.-Franziskus-Hospital in Flensburg and in the Malteser Krankenhaus St. Hildegardis in Cologne work according to this philosophy. In addition, Silviahemmet cooperates with the St. Anna-Stift Kroge in Germany . With the implementation of the Silviahemmet care philosophy in its fully inpatient living area, St. Anna-Stift Kroge won the Quality Award 2015 from the Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services .

education

So far there is no cure for dementia. Findings about dementia from clinical research flow into the training as elementary building blocks. In Sweden nurses are trained as Silvia nurses . The title is bestowed personally by Queen Silvia of Sweden. The training also includes other professional groups, such as doctors known as Silvia Doctors . Between 1996 and 2001, 34 Silvia sisters were trained. Since 2004 the Silvia sisters have been trained at Sophiahemmet, a private clinic in the north-eastern Stockholm district of Norra Djurgården. The clinic is at the university connected Sophiahemmet Hogskola.
