Silvije Glojnarić

Silvestar "Silvije" Glojnarić (born December 2, 1936 in Ladislavec ) is a Croatian jazz drummer , arranger , composer and orchestra director who also made recordings under the pseudonym Glenn Rich .

Live and act

Glojnarić formed the Zagreb Jazz Quartet with Boško Petrović , Davor Kajfeš and Miljenko Prohaska since 1960 , from which the Zagreb Jazz Quintet emerged with Art Farmer in the late 1960s . With this group he had many appearances, also abroad, and played several albums (1965 with guests Buck Clayton and Big Joe Turner ). In 1962 he recorded the album Animal Dance with John Lewis and Albert Mangelsdorff in Germany .

In 1970 he wrote the score for Lisice by Krsto Papić . In 1971 Glojnarić recorded the album Studio Jazz Orchestra for Jugoton, on which he conducted two of his own compositions, Samba Rodriques and In Dreams . In 1975 his first album , Don't Dive Up , appeared under his name Ines and contained nine pieces by him. In 1973 Johnny Griffin recorded two of his titles, Atomic Griff and Aniana. Slide Hampton presented his Concerto for Trombone and Big Band ; Stan Getz recorded his ballad Anabella , Leo Wright Dreams , in 1975 .

In 1979 Glojnarić completed his training in composition and music theory at the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb . Between 1981 and 1988 he directed the Radio Zagreb Dance Orchestra. From 1988 to 1992 and from 1996 to 2008 he was the chief conductor of the Zagreb Radio Jazz Band; with her he was a guest at numerous European jazz festivals. He also worked with musicians such as Lee Konitz , Art Taylor , Bob Mover , Buddy DeFranco , Georgie Fame , Csaba Deseő and Toots Thielemans . He also arranged for the SFB Big Band and the musical stage.

Prizes and awards

Glojnarić has received several awards for his arrangements at Croatian festivals. The Croatian Composers' Association awarded him the Miroslav Sedak Bencic Prize in 2003 for his composition Sun Ergos (for tenor saxophone and big band). In 2009 the Croatian President awarded him a medal for his outstanding contributions to the promotion of the arts and culture in Croatia.
