Silvio Witt (2017)

Silvio F. Witt (born May 13, 1978 in Neustrelitz ) is a German non-party politician , satirist and Lord Mayor of Neubrandenburg .

Education and professional career

Silvio Witt passed the Abitur at the sports high school in Neubrandenburg in 1996 . From 1997 he did community service at the Pomeranian Diakonieverein in Züssow . From 1997 to 2000 he trained as a banker at the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Strelitz in Neustrelitz . There he worked in the field of media and public relations until 2002. In the same year he began studying international trade management at the University of Worms and the Budapest Business School in Hungary and graduated in 2006 with a degree in business administration . From 2007 to 2009 Witt worked as an editor for Nordkurier in Prenzlau and Demmin .

Until his election as mayor, Silvio Witt was a self-employed entrepreneur and for six years ran a communications agency, through which he offered seminars, text work and advice, and also organized presentations and cabaret. Witt has been living in a registered civil partnership since May 2017.

Political commitment

From 1999 to 2002 Witt was a community representative in Groß Nemerow .

Witt entered 2015 as a non-party applicant for the election of mayor of Neubrandenburg. On March 1, 2015, he won the first ballot with 43 percent, and Torsten Koplin ( Die Linke ) came second with 26.8 percent.

In the runoff election on March 15, Witt received 69.7 percent of the vote; Torsten Koplin came to 30.3 percent. The turnout was 42.1 percent. Witt was thus elected for a term of seven years. His deputy is the CDU politician Peter Modemann.

Witt's predecessor in office as Lord Mayor was Paul Krüger (CDU) , who had been in office since 2001 and did not take up again in 2015 .

Silvio Witt has been a member of the main committee of the German Association of Cities since spring 2016. From spring 2019 he will also be on the Presidium of the City Council. His election took place in Hamm. In November 2016 he also took over the chairmanship of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional association in the German Library Association
