The Sportgymnasium Neubrandenburg is a sports high school in Neubrandenburg . A boarding school is attached to the school.

location

The school is in the middle of the culture park Neubrandenburg and is in the immediate vicinity of the most important training facilities in the city, such as the Jahnsportforum . The Neubrandenburg city center and the Tollensesee are within walking distance .

The Musisches Haus is in the immediate vicinity on the edge of the culture park, which enables the two houses to be used together.

History and school profile

The school was founded in 1954 as a children's and youth sports school (KJS) in the Neubrandenburg district in Anklam with the status of an EOS . The first sports offered were athletics and gymnastics, and from 1958 rowing was added. With the move in 1965 to the district capital Neubrandenburg, where the sports club SC Neubrandenburg was founded in 1962 to promote competitive sports , the promotion of gymnastics and rowing was discontinued, but canoeing was added. With a new school building, which could be moved into in 1968, the athletes had optimal training conditions here.

After the political change in 1989 , the school merged with the former Polytechnic Oberschule to form the sports high school in Neubrandenburg. Since 1998 it has also been recognized as an elite sports school.

In 2005 the company moved into a modern new building, which above all further shortened the distances to the training facilities.

school-building

In 2005 the school moved to its new school building at Schwedenstrasse 22. This move brought about an improvement in everyday school life, asked for more options for teaching and generally reduced the time required to get to the training facility. Athletes and canoeists in particular benefited from this point.

The school building has been implemented in an unusual style. Due to its oval shape, a large open atrium was created in the middle of the school, which is usually used as a canteen, but also offers space for other events. The corridors of the three-story building are glazed inwards. It is therefore possible for everyone to look into the atrium and every other floor.

The school has a large kitchen on the ground floor, through which the students can choose between 3 freshly prepared meals and a rich buffet every day. There are also several fitness rooms, large music and art rooms, a library, study rooms, several rooms for natural sciences, classrooms in various sizes, mostly equipped with a PC, smartboard and projector, as well as a hospital room and some conference rooms in various sizes. There are lockers for the students on the ground floor, which they can use for a monthly rental fee.

The inner color design is kept very simple in white and thus offers space for the creativity of the students. You can find works by students from the school on every floor. Externally, the sports grammar school stands out due to its sometimes extreme coloring. For example, all the flags in the world are on the facade.

classes

The lessons at the Sportgymnasium Neubrandenburg are adapted to competitive sports, but the focus is on school education. For a successful implementation of the cooperation between sport and school, there are, for example, so-called homework lessons that are accessible to every student. The existing modern technology is often used and expanded in everyday teaching. For example, the Markwatcher has been around for a few years, a website where students and parents can review all of their grades, often before a test or an exam is returned. There is also e-learning, a method of exchanging material that is often used in studies. Here, the teacher loads his teaching material into a specific group and enables his students to prepare better. This improves the time planning possibilities for the students.

The school's website gives students the opportunity to find out about the substitution plan.

Extracurricular activities

The sports high school is an all-day school. For the majority of the students, this means everyday training and school. However, if you want to do something else, you have the opportunity to participate in the student council or to become part of the choir / instrumental group.

This includes, for example, the appearance at the Christmas gala, which takes place annually in December. The venue for this has been the Concert Church in Neubrandenburg in recent years .

Former students

Students at the sports high school won twelve gold, four silver and eleven bronze medals at the Olympic Games . Numerous world and European championship titles add up to this. The most famous former students include Astrid Kumbernuss , Andreas Dittmer , Ralf Bartels , Tim Borowski and Martin Hollstein .

For the most successful alumni there is the "lap of honor", which can be found on the first floor.
