Szymonowo (German Groß Simnau ) is a village in Poland , about twelve kilometers west of Morąg (German Mohrungen ). The village belongs to the municipality (Polish gmina ) Małdyty in the powiat Ostródzki , Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . Szymonowo is the seat of a Schulzenamt of Gmina Małdyty, to which in addition to the village Szymonowo itself also the village Plękity (German Plenkitten ) belongs.

About one kilometer east of Szymonowo is the lake Ruda Woda (German Röthloffsee ).

history

In the former East Prussia , Simnau was a good . The last landowners were Count Hans Nikolaus Finck von Finckenstein ( Chamberlain of Viktoria Luise von Prussia ) and his son Hans Wolfram Finck von Finckenstein (agricultural historian and writer ). In 1929 the property could no longer be held and was relocated. At the beginning of the 20th century the size of the estate was 1500  ha . The estate included farmsteads, a dairy, a brickworks and a sawmill. The preliminary work of the estate was Dos cuts.

Between 1525 and 1945, Groß Simnau was the seat of an Evangelical Lutheran parish . Around 1900 the parish included the places Groß Simnau, Bagnitten, Dosnitte, Höfen, Groß and Klein Kante, Linkenau (village and estate), Plenkitten, Plössen, Schmolainen, Klein Simnau and Wodigehnen . The pastor was also the local school inspector for the three primary schools in Groß Simnau, Bagnitten and Linkenau, where a total of three teachers were employed. The patron saint of the parish church was Count von Finckenstein-Groß Simnau. The congregation had almost 1,100 members.

The Groß Simnau estate had the status of an estate district in the 19th century . From 1874 he formed the district of Groß Simnau in the district of Mohrungen together with the rural community of Klein Simnau . From 1883 at the latest, the southern part of the Röthloffsee was also included in the administrative district, which was fiscally referred to as the Mohrungen estate, domain office (later the Röthloffsee estate ). As part of a regional reform, the manor districts Groß Simnau and Röthloffsee were dissolved and incorporated into the rural community of Klein Simnau. The newly formed regional authority was named Landgemeinde Simnau . In 1935 the official name was changed to Simnau municipality . The municipality of Simnau comprised the localities Dosnitte (Dziśnity), Linkswinkel (now unnamed), Groß Simnau (Szymonowo) and Klein Simnau (Szymonowko). The administrative district and municipality of Simnau existed in this form until 1945.

The manor house built at the beginning of the 20th century is now used as a children's home.
