Simon Eichenberger

Simon Eichenberger (born 1976 in Beinwil am See ) is a Swiss director and choreographer .

life and work

Eichenberger completed his training at the Swiss Chamber Ballet in Zurich with Jean Deroc . He was a dancer for 15 years . He then worked as assistant and associate choreographer for the choreographer and director Kim Duddy , with her he worked on a number of musical productions: Fame (at the Stadttheater St. Gallen , 2004), as well as the musical Sommer Amstetten Footloose (2004), Jesus Christ Superstar (2005), Carmen Cubana , (world premiere 2006), Hair (2007), Elton John's musical version of Verdi's Aida (2008) and Rockville (premiere 2009). He was also involved in the world premieres of the Udo Jürgens musical I was never in New York ( Operettenhaus Hamburg, 2007) and the Udo Lindenberg musical Hinterm Horizont ( Theater am Potsdamer Platz Berlin, 2011).

His own career as a choreographer began in 2007 with The 13½ Lives of Captain Blaubär and Weekend and Sunshine , two versions of the tour. This was followed by South Pacific and Into the Woods at the Staatstheater Kassel , Gigi at the Graz Opera and Kiss me Kate at the Salzburger Landestheater . For the ThunerSeespiele , Dällebach Kari , Gotthelf , Titanic and Dürrenmatt's The Visit of the Old Lady , which could also be seen in Vienna at the Ronacher . He was also responsible for Die Schweizermacher in Zurich. For his work with Rebecca (in St. Gallen and Stuttgart) he was recognized by the specialist magazine musicals in the category Best Choreography. At the Wiener Kammerspiele he was involved in the European premiere of Catch Me If You Can and La Cage aux Folles , and at the Vienna Theater der Jugend he made his debut with Once Upon a Mattress . For the new Musiktheater Linz he developed the shows Seven in Heaven and Show Boat , The Who's Tommy and Grand Hotel . He choreographed the musical Das Wunder von Bern for the Hamburg Theater an der Elbe , for which he received the first German musical award in the "Best Choreography" category.

In 2015 Eichenberger was invited to the Salzburg Festival and designed the choreography of Shakespeare's comedy of errors on the Pernerinsel in Hallein, directed by Henry Mason . In the summer of 2017 he staged the West Side Story on the Schlossplatz of the Schwerin State Theater and the Rocky Horror Show for the Zwingenberg Festival .
