Simon Hollósy
Simon Hollósy (born February 2, 1857 in Máramarossziget , Austrian Empire ; died May 8, 1918 in Técső , Austria-Hungary ) was a Hungarian painter . He is considered to be one of the most important representatives of his country of naturalism and realism of the 19th century.
Life
Hollósy was born into a family from Armenia . He began to study painting in Budapest and then came to Munich to continue his education at the Academy of Fine Arts . In 1886 he founded a private painting school in the Bavarian capital . His students included Alexandra Povòrina , Walter Queck , Amanda Tröndle-Engel and Károly Kiss. At the turn of the 20th century he co-founded the artists' colony in Nagybánya ; there he taught among others Moissey Kogan and Richard Gerstl (1900–1901).
