Simone de Montmollin (born July 20, 1968 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss oenologist and politician ( FDP ) and has been a national councilor since 2019.

Life

Simone de Montmollin grew up in Mies . She studied business administration and management in the medical field and then founded a communications company.

In 1996 she changed her focus to wine and in 2002 graduated from the Changins University of Applied Sciences with a degree in oenology . In 2003 she took over the editing of the local graduate magazine “Objectif”. From 2003 to 2019 she was head of the Swiss Oenological Union (USOE) and from 2014 to 2017 she worked as a communications specialist in the corporate communications department of Agroscope , the Swiss Federal Institute for Agricultural Research. She also chaired the organizing committee of the 42nd World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine , which took place in Geneva in 2019 .

She is married and has two daughters.

Political career

In 2008 she was elected to the Geneva Constituent Assembly as an independent liberal candidate. She was part of the state political commission and worked successfully on the introduction of a constitutional article on agriculture.

In 2013 she was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva with 19,311 votes for the FDP . She was a member of the Environment and Agriculture Committees and Management. In 2018 she was re-elected with 21,682 votes, making it the fifth-best result in the canton of Geneva.

In 2019 Simone de Montmollin ran for elections to the National Council and was elected with 32,402 votes, the second best result in the canton of Geneva. She was sworn in as a national councilor on December 2, 2019.
