Simtek S951
The Simtek S951 was used in the 1995 season and is the second and last Formula 1 racing car of the British Formula 1 team Simtek .
Development history and technology
It was designed by Nick Wirth , team principal and founder of the racing team. The car was initially intended for the Italian Domenico Schiattarella and the Dutch Jos Verstappen , who was under contract with Benetton Formula a year earlier . The Japanese Hideki Noda was used as a test driver and should replace Schiattarella as No. 1 in the second half of the season.
The S951 was powered by a V8 cylinder engine from the Ford Cosworth series . The vehicle is considered a further development of the Simtek S941 from the previous season and proved to be more competitive than its predecessor. Jos Verstappen was able to regularly qualify for the middle starting positions and compete with the middle field during the racing phases despite numerous failures.
Racing history
At the Monaco Grand Prix , the fifth race of the season, Nick Wirth announced that his team was more than £ 6 million in debt. Financial support had been hoped for from the sponsors Nodas, but they had withdrawn from the racing business as a result of the Kobe earthquake . Simtek skipped the next race in Canada and filed for bankruptcy . The vehicles were sold as part of the liquidation and were then only seen at historical championships and exhibitions.
