Symphony Orchestra Schöneberg (SOS)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sinfonie Orchester Schöneberg (SOS) was founded in 1993 by amateur musicians who had outgrown student orchestras and quickly developed into one of Berlin's established amateur orchestras . People from a wide variety of professions meet in their free time to make music at a high level together under professional guidance. The orchestra performs twice a year in the mostly sold-out Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic .

The Schöneberg Symphony Orchestra is registered as an eV .

Repertoire and performances

The concert programs consist of works by composers from all epochs and from many countries, from classics and less known ones to the world premiere of a commissioned composition. In addition to pure symphonic works, the program often includes solo concerts and choral symphonic pieces. Most of the soloists are members of the Berliner Philharmoniker . The cooperation with choirs takes place on the basis of mutual interests.

The orchestra worked with well-known conductors such as Gabriel Feltz , Hermann Bäumer , Henrik Schaefer , Carlos Spierer , Gerhardt Müller-Goldboom , Michael Sanderling , Stefan Rauh , Christoph Breidler and Sir Simon Rattle . At the same time, the orchestra also accompanied numerous internationally known solo artists, such as the pianists Avan Yu and Emre Elivar , the violinist Guy Braunstein , the clarinetist Wenzel Fuchs , the horn player Stefan de Leval Jezierski , the cellist Olaf Maninger as well as Hasan Yükselir , Michaela Kaune at their concerts.

The highlight of the orchestra's concert activities are the performances in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition, concerts take place regularly in the Schöneberg Town Hall and in various churches in Berlin, including the Berlin Cathedral , the Gethsemane Church and the Lindenkirche . Further appearances take place in Berlin as well as in Germany and abroad.
