The Sicilian honey leek ( Allium siculum Ucria , syn .: Nectaroscordum siculum ( Ucria ) Lindl. , Formerly also Trigonea sicula , Nothoscordum siculum ), Sicilian pseudo-leek or Bulgarian garlic leek is a species of the subgenus Nectaroscordum from the genus leek ( allium ) in the subfamily Leek family (Allioideae).

The Sicilian honey leek is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 50 to 125 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The leaves are runny and measure 30 to 40 (60) × 1 to 3 (5) centimeters.
The 10 to 30 flowers are bell-shaped, drooping and their stems are of unequal length. The outer tepals are egg-shaped, five-nerved and measure 10 to 12 (17) × about 8 millimeters, the inner tepals are single-nerved and measure 15 × 9.5 millimeters. The perigone is dull purple and greenish at the base. The capsule fruit is upright.
The flowering time is in May after the leaves have died.
Occurrence
Allium siculum is native to Crimea, western Anatolia, southern France , Corsica , and Italy , Sardinia , Sicily , Tuscany and Basilicata . Here this species can be found in beech forests at altitudes of 400 to 1000 meters.
Systematics
One can distinguish between two subspecies:
- Allium siculum subsp. dioscoridis (Sm.) K. Richt. : It occurs from eastern Romania to northwestern Turkey and the Crimea.
- Allium siculum subsp. siculum : It occurs from southern France to Sicily.
use
The Sicilian honey leek is sometimes used as an ornamental plant in borders. It should not be over-fertilized. It spreads over broiling bulbs.
