Sjoerd Idzenga (born May 11, 1988 in Heerenveen ) is a Dutch ice hockey goalkeeper who is under contract with the Heerenveen Flyers and has played in the Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2015 .

Career

Club

Sjoerd Idzenga began his career as a hockey player with the Heerenveen Flyers in his Frisian hometown. In the 2006/07 season he made his debut in the Dutch honor division , but was also repeatedly used in the second team of the club in the first division in the following years . Since 2015 he has been playing with his team in the newly founded Belgian-Dutch BeNe League . In their premiere season he reached the playoff final against HYC Herentals from Belgium with the Flyers , but it was lost. As the best Dutch team, however, the Frisians received the Dutch championship title . In addition, Idzenga won the Dutch Beker Cup with his team in 2016 . He was personally awarded the Gobel-De-Bruyn-Trofee as the best Dutch goalkeeper . In 2017 he was able to win both the BeNe League and the Dutch championship with Heerenveen.

National team

Idzenga participated for the Netherlands in the junior division at the U18 World Championships in 2005 and 2006 and the U20 World Championship in 2007 in Division II.

He was part of the men's national team for the first time at the World Cup in Division II in 2016 , when he made a significant contribution to the Oranjes' promotion to Division I with the best catch rate and the lowest goals against goals of the tournament and was also voted the best player on his team.
