Skin was founded in 1992, British hard rock - band .

history

The group was founded by Myke Gray and Andy Robbins, Neville MacDonald and Dicki Fliszar. Gray and Robbins had played together in the band Jagged Edge , Robbins had also been a member of Tokyo Blade . MacDonald came from the Kooga group , Fliszar had previously been a member of Bruce Dickinson's band and played with the German hard rock band Vamp , with whom he recorded the album The Rich Don't Rock .

The band called themselves "Taste" at first, but also tried other names such as "Obsession", "Bad For Good" and "Phoenix" while playing a few club concerts. The group was offered a management contract with Sanctuary Management, as well as a recording deal with the Parlophone label . Bruce Dickinson made producer Keith Olsen aware of the band, who offered to produce the debut album in his Los Angeles studio. The group accepted the offer, but were not entirely satisfied with the result, and added three more tracks, which were produced by Shay Baby .

The group decided on the band name "Skin" shortly before the album was released and went on a 14-day tour of Great Britain as the opening act for the Little Angels . Another tour as support for the band Thunder followed before the EP "The Skin Up EP" was released in 1993. The second single was "House of Love," the third, "Money", hit the UK singles chart and reached number 18. The self-titled debut album reached the top 10 in Great Britain and reached number 9 on the album charts. Skin performed at the Monsters of Rock Festival in Donington and then released another single: "Tower of Strength" reached number 19 on the charts.

1995 Skin released "Live at The Borderline ". A limited edition of 50 copies of this live album , which only contained cover versions of songs by other bands (including Van Halen , Led Zeppelin , Fleetwood Mac ), was included as a free supplement to an issue of Kerrang! issued and thus became a rare collector's item. Shortly thereafter, however , the album was released regularly in Japan .

In 1996 Colin McLeod joined the band. He played keyboards at the concerts, but otherwise only worked as a session musician for the skin. The band's second album, recorded with McLeod, could not continue the success of the debut album: " Lucky " reached number 38 in the British charts, the two singles "How Lucky You Are" and "Perfect Day," only achieved marginally better rankings. As a result, Skin lost the record deal with Parlophone; the treaty for Japan remained in place.

In 1997, Skin recorded "Big Fat Slice of Life" for the Japanese market. From this album the tracks "Blow My Mind," "Shine Like Diamonds," "Tripping," "Love Like Suicide," "Winners And Losers," "Bittersweet," "Pleasure" and "Blue Wave" for " Experience Electric." , “The third studio album released in Europe, revised; "Blue Wave" turned into the title track of the album. Shortly before, the group had released a self-financed CD single with the songs "Degeneration" and "Big Fat Slice of Life" through their fan club .

At the Download Festival 2009 the band appeared again in their original line-up, previously the group had played a few smaller concerts in clubs in London and Wolverhampton . The group then released an acoustic album titled "Up Close and Personal" and went on a small tour of Great Britain in winter 2009. In 2010 the group released their last album, "Breaking The Silence," appeared again as part of the Download Festival and announced another farewell tour that took place in December 2010.

On May 28, 2013, the band announced on their official website that Neville MacDonald was leaving the band for personal reasons with immediate effect. All future appearances including the "20th Anniversary Tour" are no longer valid. Drummer Dicki Fliszar comments on his Facebook profile "Dear SKIN fans. Bad news. There will be no tour and no more SKIN."

Neville MacDonald is musically active in his band Hand Of Dimes, founded in 2012, where u. a. ex-Kooga keyboardist Neil Garland also participates.

Myke Gray released an instrumental solo album in 2017 entitled "Shades of Gray".
