Vamp was the name of a German hard rock band founded in Bonn in 1985 , which in 1989 released their only album, " The Rich Don't Rock ", on Atlantic Records . The group consisted of four musicians; Singer Tom Bellini came from the USA .

history

Vamp was founded in 1985 by Ricolf Cross (real name Ricolf Krückel) as guitarist, Oliver Scholz ( bassist ) and Dicki Fliszar ( drums ) in Bonn and in October 1986 with the US-American who was still stationed in Stuttgart and who came from New York Tom Bellini ( vocals ) completed. The group recorded a demo tape weeks later that included the tracks Lonely Nights , What About Love , Wasted Time and Down And Dirty .

The trade press and record companies quickly became aware of the situation. For example, the magazine Crash wrote that Vamp shoot “in the American line in the style of Bon Jovi , Dokken etc. The very catchy heavy rock, with a lot of choral singing,” was “raised very professionally by German standards.” However, the reviewer was skeptical whether “the group with their US heavy rock would be well received”, because “with the exception of the very good singer”, “the rest of the band seems to be missing that certain something that you immediately feel in the US bands”. Otherwise the demo was “not bad.” Metal Hammer said that in Germany there was “actually a commercial band of American style that was in no way inferior to the Yankees Ratt , Bon Jovi and WASP ” - “both musically and visually.” A colleague of the After listening to the demo, reviewers spontaneously guessed “a new combo from Los Angeles that is on the move to the top”, that “basically says everything about vamp.” Some “well-known labels” have “already expressed interest in the band so that the first LP production will probably not be long in coming ”. Malcolm Dome summed up the first review of the band for Kerrang magazine with the words: “Remember the name ... check out the music!” (Meaning: “Remember the name ... listen to the music!”) .

Vamp received a recording contract in 1987 with the US major label Atlantic Records. The band recorded their debut album under the direction of producer Tony Platt, who had already worked as a sound engineer for Led Zeppelin and AC / DC , at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum ( Netherlands ) and at Point Studio in London ( Great Britain ).

In the spring of 1988 Vamp played as the opening act of White Lion on their Germany - tour , but was not announced at the concert posters. Only one month later, the group, which was originally only supposed to play at the concert in their home bisquit hall in Bonn, replaced the British thrash metal band Sabbat as support on UDO's tour

The album The Rich Don't Rock was released in September 1989 and received positive reviews. Around 30,000 units were sold worldwide. The band appeared on the German TV broadcaster Tele 5 on the program "Hard & Heavy", where they performed the theme song. In 1989 the group got the opportunity to present their album in the opening act of Bonfire's European tour .

The sales of the album were insufficient for Atlantic Records, and Vamp lost the record deal, the band broke up in 1990. Dickie Fliszar received and accepted the offer to play for Bruce Dickinson on the Tattoed Millionaire tour . He was later a founding member of the British rock band Skin . Ricolf Krückel learned the profession of sound engineer at the SAE Institute and founded a sound studio in Andernach .

New edition of the album

In January 2013, the record company Divebomb Records announced that they had reissued the album in a deluxe version. The new edition was remastered by guitarist Ricolf Krückel , and the album was expanded to include various bonus tracks. A second CD included seven professionally produced demo recordings of The Rich Don't Rock and eight from the never-released second vamp album, One Smack Killer .

The reunification of the band sought by Ricolf Cross failed due to his death, he passed away unexpectedly on January 3, 2015.
