SKOP is a northern German ska band that was founded in Elmshorn in 1999 .

Band history

The band was founded in 1999 around the singer and songwriter Michael Ramm, who was already active as a saxophonist in the band The Monroes . The band originally consisting of 4 musicians developed into the formation currently consisting of 11 musicians.

The band proved its stage presence at many regional and national events such as Circus Maximus KO, Jazztime Hildesheim, Fabrik , Borkum Jazz Days, Wilwarin, Krückau Festival, and Markthalle Hamburg . In addition to appearances in German-speaking countries, SKOP played in 2008 at the "Rock for People Festival" in the Czech Republic.

SKOP was happy to take on the support of international bands such as Bad Manners , The Skatalites and The Busters .

SKOP could be heard on Delta-Radio, NDR 2 , Radio Excless, Radio Zusa and IZ-Radio.

style

The name SKOP (Ska meets Pop) symbolizes the different musical influences of the band. SKOP mainly plays ska and reggae with a stylistic opening to pop and jazz.

The lyrics of the band are written in German, Spanish and French, but mostly in English. With Dörthe Ramm, SKOP has a second lead vocals through which many pieces are sung with several voices.

music

After the first sound carrier Scary (2000) mainly featured entertaining pieces, SKOP became increasingly political and socially critical on the following CDs Take off (2005) and Ska'n'Roll (2009). With songs like War inna Babylon , Sans issue , Another perfect Day , the band takes a stand on current political events.

According to the self-image of the band, SKOP is not a primarily politically motivated band. Having fun with this music and interacting with the audience is the basic motivation.

In 2010, SKOP released a maxi-CD entitled Tequiero FC St. Pauli for the benefit of Viva con Agua . This is sold exclusively for the benefit of Viva con Agua.

Also in 2010 a DVD was released showing an unplugged concert that was recorded in 2009 in the Nikolaikirche (Elmshorn) .
