history
In the 13th century, the place belonged to the Ghibelline family of the Ubertini from Arezzo. This also made the castle a refuge for the Ghibellines from Siena . On September 4, 1275 a document was written in Sogna in which Messer Baldo figlio di Tebaldo degli Ubertini sold an area near Quercegrossa to the Cistercian nuns of San Prospero in Siena . In the conflict between Ghibellines and Guelphs, the castle was set on fire in 1307 by troops from Florence and the place was destroyed. In 1385 the place came under the control of Florence, but was conquered and destroyed by Siena in the renewed conflict between Ghibellines and Guelphs in 1430. After the defeat of the Republic of Siena in the conflict with Florence in 1555, the castle was not rebuilt. In 1833 the place had 86 inhabitants.
