geography
Soma, the largest town in the Lower River Region (LRR) in Jarra West District , is located on the South Bank Road about 180 kilometers east of Banjul and about fourteen kilometers south of Farafenni , across the river. The seat of the administrative unit LRR in Mansa Konko is about three kilometers to the north. Soma is an important traffic junction because the Trans-Gambia Highway ( N 4 ) runs on the north-south axis . This road connects Senegal with the Casamance region , while the road leads over Kaolack andNioro du Rip through Gambia via the cities of Farafenni and Soma to Bignona and Ziguinchor again in Senegal. The Senegambia Bridge over the Gambia was opened on January 21, 2019 . The existing ferry connection was thus greatly relieved.
