The summer knot flower ( Leucojum aestivum ), also called late blooming knot flower , is one of the two species still remaining in the genus of knot flowers ( Leucojum ).
Occurrence
Their natural occurrence extends from all of Europe to Crimea and the eastern coast of the Black Sea and across southwest Asia to northern Iran. They grow in wetter areas than the spring flowers node , for example, on wet meadows .
description
The summer knot flower is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of about 60 cm. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. At the base of the plant there are three to five linear leaves with a length of up to 50 cm and a width of about 2 cm.
In the inflorescences there are usually three to seven flowers on stems of unequal length, which is an important distinguishing feature from the relatively similar spring knot flower . The bell-shaped, hermaphrodite flowers are threefold and are 1 to 1.5 cm in size, much smaller than those of the spring knot flower. The flower contains six identical, white bracts , each with a characteristic greenish spot at their tip, and six free stamens .
The name for the genus was probably the pre-summer flowering period associated with the knot-like, subordinate ovary . The summer knot flower blooms from March to May. There are fruit capsules formed containing many black seeds.

The whole plant is poisonous due to alkaloids such as lycorin and galantamine .
