Sommerberg bei Frauenstein is a nature reserve northwest of the Wiesbaden district of Frauenstein .

location

The over 26 hectare protected area below Schloss Sommerberg was designated on December 11, 1992 in the natural area of the Rheingau-Wiesbadener Vortaunus (part of the Vortaunus ) according to the Hessian Nature Conservation Act. It is part of the Rhine-Taunus and is within the conservation area, the city of Wiesbaden . It comprises a steep slope in a south-westerly direction with adjoining orchards and the floodplain of the Erlenbach above Hof Armada .

The slope serves as a habitat for warmth-loving animal and plant species, including the rare Aesculapian snake . In the upper reaches of the Erlenbach, which flows into the Rhine via the Lindenbach , there is wet grassland , fat meadow , tall herbaceous vegetation and natural forest stands. Species-rich populations of oats , pipegrass and rushes can be found in the lower reaches of extensive use .

The nature reserve Wiesbaden and the Forsthaus Chausseehaus look after the protected area . The "snake path" explains visitors to the Aesculapian snake, their habitat and the species protection project.
