Sun protection technician
Sun protection technician has been an Austrian apprenticeship since 1998 . Apprentices are trained in the dual system . The school part of the three-year training takes place at the Villach vocational school . After completing the apprenticeship and at the age of 18, the master craftsman examination can be taken. Sun protection technicians are represented in the Chamber of Commerce by ARGE Sun Protection Technology of the trade association for machines and metal goods. The counterpart in Germany is the apprenticeship as a roller shutter and sun protection mechatronic or roller shutter and sun protection technician.

The work of sun protection technicians used to be carried out by plumbers , locksmiths and upholsterers . The increasing demands of modern shading technology due to the increasing use of mechanical and electrical systems have made it necessary to train specialized specialists. After a trial as a training attempt from 1998, the profession of sun protection technician was established as a regular apprenticeship by regulation in 2002. In 2008 there were 46 apprentices nationwide, 40 men (87%) and 6 women (13%).
Professional profile
Through the vocational training in the apprenticeship company and in the vocational school, the apprentice should be able to carry out the following activities:
- Setting up the workplace
- Reading and using technical documents
- Proper selection, procurement and checking of the required materials
- Designing , planning , calculating , producing and assembling sunshades
- Installation , commissioning and maintenance of mechanical and electrically operated sun protection systems
- Assessment, assessment and measurement of electrical and job-specific non-electrical quantities
- Customer-oriented behavior and customer advice
- Carry out the work taking into account the relevant safety regulations , norms and environmental standards
- Recording of technical data about the workflow and the work results
