The Sonora Peak is a 3,495 m high mountain in the Sierra Nevada in the US - State of California . It lies on the border between Alpine County and Mono County and forms the highest mountain in Mono County.
The summit is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) north and 554 m above the Sonora Pass , from where it can be climbed. The Pacific Crest Trail also passes below . The next higher mountain is Leavitt Peak, about 7.5 km south, at 3528 m. Southwest opens the Stanislaus National Forest , north is the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness and east of the military training area Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center Bridgeport . The 98 km long East Fork Carson River , a tributary of the Carson River, has its source on the northeast side of Sonora Peak .
