Sophia Jane Myles (born March 18, 1980 in London ) is a British actress . She became known through the films Tristan & Isolde (2006) and Hallam Foe - This Is My Story (2007) and as Beth Turner in the series Moonlight (2007-2008).

life and career

Myles was born to Jane and Peter Myles. Her father is a vicar , her mother a publishing clerk. She has Russian ancestors and has a special ear for accents . Myles grew up in Notting Hill and attended Fox Primary School. At the age of eleven she moved to Isleworth with her parents , where she attended the "Green School". She gave up studying philosophy at Cambridge when she was in her early twenties to concentrate fully on her acting career. She currently lives in Green Park, London .

Since 1996, Myles has appeared in numerous US and British film and television productions. She had her first appearance in 1996 in a television remake of The Prince and the Begging Boy . In 1999 she made her cinema debut with the film Mansfield Park . In 2001 she first became known to a larger audience with a small role as Victoria Abberline on the side of Johnny Depp in the thriller From Hell . In 2002 and 2003 she appeared in music videos by Bush and Ronan Keating on. In 2003 she starred as Erika in Underworld alongside Kate Beckinsale . In the sequel Underworld: Evolution (2006), she reappeared in this role in flashbacks . In 2004 she played the lead role in the thriller Alone in the Dark . In the same year she could be seen as Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds .

Myles played her first major leading role in a cinema production in 2006 as Isolde alongside James Franco in Tristan & Isolde , the film adaptation of the legend of the same name . In the same year she played a guest role as Madame de Pompadour in an episode of the Doctor Who series . She also starred as Lucy Westenra in the TV movie Dracula . In 2007 she starred alongside Jamie Bell in the drama Hallam Foe - This Is My Story . Myles won a Scottish BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her performance and was nominated for a British Independent Film Award in the same category . In 2008 she played Freya in the thriller Outlander alongside James Caviezel .

In 2007 she got the role of Beth Turner on the CBS series Moonlight . The series won the People's Choice Award for Best New Drama Series in 2007 . In 2008, Moonlight was discontinued after a season despite fan protests. In 2010, she played the role of Beth Bailey in the British television series In the Visor of MI5 at the beginning of the ninth season .
