The South Mapleton Drive is more than one kilometer long one of the longest streets in the residential area Holmby Hills in the west of Los Angeles . The street starts in the north on Sunset Boulevard and ends in the south on Club View Drive across from Holmby Park .
Known residents
At the southeast end of the street at number 594 - on the area between Holmby Park in the southwest and the Los Angeles Country Club in the southeast - is the largest house in Holmby Hills .
The actor couple Lex Barker (1919-1973) and Lana Turner (1921-1995) lived under number 120 in the 1950s until they separated in 1957 .
Actress Debbie Reynolds (* 1932) lived on property number 130 at the beginning of the 1950s and then from 1953 to 1960 her colleague Judy Garland (1922-1969) was married to the film producer Sidney Luft (1915-2005). The film producer Jesse Lasky (1880-1958) lived in the immediate vicinity under number 143 and another professional colleague, Hal Wallis (1899-1986), lived with his wife Louise Fazenda (1895-1982) under number 161. He later lived in the same house Singer Neil Diamond (born 1941).
The musician Sammy Cahn (1913-1993) lived under number 175 and the actor and director Mel Gibson (* 1956) lived under number 219 .
The property number 232 was inhabited by the actor couple Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) and Lauren Bacall (1924-2014). After "Bogey's" death, Bacall sold the property.
The actress Gloria Grahame (1923–1981) lived under number 240 and the German-Austrian actor Curd Jürgens (1915–1982) under number 243. The property number 292 was in the 1940s by the actress Jane Withers (* 1926) and in In the 1990s her colleague Geena Davis (* 1956) lived there.
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner (1926-2017) resided under number 333 .
In 1936, the actress Joan Bennett (1910–1990) commissioned the architect Wallace Neff to build villa number 515, which was then inhabited by her and, since their marriage in 1940, her husband and professional colleague Walter Wanger (1894–1968). The couple Hal Wallis and Louise Fazenda later lived at this address, having previously lived in house number 161 on the same street.
The entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr. (1925-1990) lived under number 584 in the 1950s .
The singer Bing Crosby (1903-1977) resided in the former villa of property number 594 from 1943 to 1964, and immediately after him from 1964 to 1983 Patrick J. Frawley, President of the Schick Razor Company . He sold the property to the film and television producer Aaron Spelling (1923-2006), who had the old mansion and two other houses demolished and built the largest residential building in Los Angeles County : a "castle" with about 120 rooms. After Spelling's death, his widow Carole "Candy" Spelling sold the Candyland property, now named after her, in 2011 for more than $ 80 million to Petra Ecclestone, the then 22-year-old daughter of Formula 1 entrepreneur Bernie Ecclestone (* 1930).
