The South Tyne is a river in northern England , from whose meeting with the North Tyne the Tyne arises.
The South Tyne arises on the north slope of Tynehead Fell in Cumbria and flows from there in a northerly direction until it curves west of Haltwhistle in an easterly direction and flows in that direction until it meets the North Tyne west of Hexham .
The South Tyne Trail - trail follows the valley of the river from its creation until after Haltwhistle. The former Alston Line railway runs from Alston to Haltwhistle through the valley of the river and is now partly used by the South Tyne Trail.
