The Büchenbacher Sport Club Erlangen eV , BSC Erlangen for short , is a sports club from the Middle Franconian city of Erlangen with departments for football , tennis , ultimate frisbee and bowling . The association is based in the Büchenbach district .
history
The Büchenbach sports club was founded in 1919, the exact date is not known. Then after the Second World War on December 2, 1945, the representatives of the three Büchenbacher clubs Büchenbach sports club, Büchenbach men's choir and “Solidarity” cycling club met to found the Erlangen-Büchenbach sports association , or SpVgg Büchenbach for short .
The club became known nationwide through its football department: the first men's team was promoted to the then third-class amateur league in Northern Bavaria in the 1957/58 season . The then SpVgg belonged to this league until 1979 for a total of 22 seasons. The Büchenbachers experienced their greatest success in the 1961/62 season, when the SpVgg champions of the amateur league in Northern Bavaria. The Büchenbachers only narrowly missed promotion to the second division in the playoffs against Südmeister ESV Ingolstadt-Ringsee : the guest game in Ingolstadt was lost 0: 1, at home in front of 8,000 spectators the SpVgg did not get beyond a 1: 1.
The team at that time also included the future Bundesliga player Klaus Slatina , who switched directly to the final competitor from Ingolstadt after missing promotion. After the missed promotion, the SpVgg first had to keep in the single-track Bayernliga from 1963. This only just succeeded with places 13 and 14 in the first two years, from 1965/66 as 6th to 1970/71 as 7th, the SpVgg was always in a single-digit position at the end of the season. Under the former national player and world champion Herbert Erhardt as coach in 1969/70 even came third. Despite other prominent coaches such as Franz Brungs , Stefan Reisch and Josef Zenger , the relegation from the Bayern League could not be prevented. It was then sealed in May 1979 under Klaus Slatina as coach.
In the Landesliga Mitte too, the BSC remained true to its tendency towards prominent coaches. The former Dortmund national players Aki Schmidt and Lothar Emmerich trained here, as did Franz Brungs once again and the other former Nuremberg professionals Gustav Flachenecker and Bernhard Hartmann . Nevertheless, in 1986 the relegation to the district league was due. There it went on with former players of 1. FC Nürnberg as a coach. But while Dieter Schabacker also remained unsuccessful, the BSC managed to return to the national league in 1991 under Dieter Nüssing , who "did not meet the expectations of a university-educated city" because of his rough handling. There the BSC even celebrated the runner-up in 1992/93. In 2000, the company was relegated again, after having only just barely averted bankruptcy. In 2014, the BSC Erlangen had to start again at the bottom of the B class, because the club had to cancel its team in the district league a year earlier due to a lack of players. After a year, however, they were promoted to the A-class. In the 2018/2019 season, the team returned to the district class on time for the club's centenary.
During the state league time, the club's board had also decided to rename the club and create a direct reference to the city of Erlangen in the club's name. It was hoped that this would result in better funding from the city. Against the fierce resistance of some of the members, the renaming was decided. Since May 7th 1981 the club has been called BSC Erlangen .
DFB Cup
BSC Erlangen was able to qualify once for the main round of the DFB Cup . In the 1988/89 season, however, the Büchenbachers were eliminated in the first main round with a 0: 5 against the then UEFA Cup winner Bayer 04 Leverkusen .
