Spiro Dellerba (born January 25, 1923 in Ashtabula , Ohio , † August 19, 1968 in North Madison , Ohio) was an American American football and Canadian football player. He played as a linebacker in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts .

Player career

College career

Spiro Dellerba studied at Ohio State University and played college football with Dante Lavelli , Bill Willis and Lou Groza for the Ohio State Buckeyes , who were coached by Paul Brown . During World War II , he played American football for a military team.

Professional career

After the end of World War II, Spiro Dellerba joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats , a team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 1947 he was hired by Paul Brown's Cleveland Browns, a football team from the All-American Football Conference. Groza, Lavelli and Willis had been under contract there since 1946. The Browns used him as a running back . The team was able to win twelve of 14 games this year and moved with this performance in the AAFC final against the New York Yankees . With a 14: 3 victory for his team, Dellerba won the AAFC championship as a rookie . Dellerba moved after this game to the Baltimore Colts supervised by Cecil Isbell . With the Colts he played in defense as a linebacker. He did not win a title with the team from Baltimore . After the 1949 season, the AAFC had to stop playing due to financial problems and Dellerba ended his career.
